Prior to joining Clark & Weinstock, Jonathan served more than eight years as a senior staffer on the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.
As U.S. Senator Herb Kohl’s (D-WI) General Counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, Jonathan was significantly involved with a wide range of merger review activities, covering the media, high-tech, and telecommunications industries. Because Jonathan also was responsible for broader Judiciary Committee issues as General Counsel to Senator Kohl, he also participated in the negotiations and deliberations of tort reform bills (namely asbestos reform), data privacy legislation, intellectual property bills, and Constitutional issues (from First Amendment concerns, criminal law, to property rights controversies).
In addition to his Judiciary Committee responsibilities, Jonathan also served Senator Kohl on the Appropriations Committee, specifically with regards to the Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS) Appropriations and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bills. In 2000, Jonathan took a leave of absence from the Senate and was appointed Political Director for Senator Kohl’s re-election bid. In this role, he served as the primary liaison to other political campaigns and coordinated numerous endorsements for the Senator’s successful campaign.
