S. Steven Karalekas

S. Steven Karalekas brings almost 40 years of experience, including service in the White House, Congress and private legal practice.

Steven began his career serving as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Donald H. Hunter of the Indiana Supreme Court from 1969 to 1970.

He then served as Staff Assistant at the White House from 1971 to 1973, where he worked on defense, foreign policy and legislative issues for President Richard Nixon.

He then became Chief Assistant to Congressman Paul Cronin of Massachusetts from 1973 to 1974, until he joined the law firm of Wilkinson, Cragun & Barker and served from 1974 to 1977.

In 1977, he was a founding partner of the law firm of Karalekas & McCahill and its successor, Karalekas & Noone, formed in March of 1993. The firm provided legal, government and public relations and lobbying services to a broad range of U.S. and foreign clients. In October 2004, Karalekas & Noone merged with The Washington Group, which in 2008 merged with Clark & Weinstock.

Steven attended the U.S. Naval Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science with honors in 1965; Indiana University Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctor cum laude in 1970; and Harvard University, receiving a Master of Public Administration cum laude in 1971.

Steven is active in a number of civic and political endeavors. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana and as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Steven served overseas in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969. He is a licensed private pilot and holds the rank of Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve (Ret.). He was awarded the Department of Defense Outstanding Civilian Service Medal by then Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney and the Navy's highest civilian recognition, the Secretary of the Navy's Distinguished Public Service Medal. His military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, and Navy Commendation Medal.
